First use of Congolese Cross as Order Cross and the creation of

the House Church Reredose with a double St Andrews Cross

The event was the celebration of the completed life of Wendy Hockley, the seven year old daughter of Elaine and Len Hockley. The Hockley family was interning in the Order when it was discovered that Wendy had a brain tumor. She died on February 4 of 1967 in the residence at 341 E Trumbull.

Her memorial service was held in the Great Hall on the West Side campus where the Congolese Cross was used as an order symbol for the first time.

Also for the first time for this service the double St Andrews Cross was sewn on the reredose to symbolize the Word and the Deed.

This use of the double St Andrew's cross for the Word and Deed came out of a article published in the winter issue of Image. See The Universal Word and Deed
