Global Priors Council 1978: What Do We Think Will Happen in the Coming Twenty Years?

I recently came across this document in my files, dated July 1978, from the Global Priors Council following, I assume, Summer 78. It appears to have been prepared for the priors' meeting, based on work done at the summer program. The cover page describes what it is:

These paragraphs are the result of the Third Section of the Historical Mandates and represent the writing of thirty-three groups of people, as they stood in the year 1998 and look back over the last twenty years.

I've chosen the products of just seven of these working groups to post here. As one might expect, they range from the overly optimistic to the surprisingly prescient. To me, it is a fascinating snapshot of how we viewed the world and thought about its future, thirty years ago. As we look toward the future from today's vantage point, what can we learn from noticing what we saw so clearly then--and what we weren't able to see coming?
