The Harper Family Preamble and Meeting Design
When Roxana and I joined the Symbolic Order in 1971, we had already been married for eleven years and had three children. As a result, while we were encouraged to write a family covenant, it was not required of us as it was for those who married within the Order. To my recollection, we never did get around to composing the full document that others produced prior to their marriage ceremony.
However, we recently came across two handwritten sheets in our files that point to the kind of thinking families were called upon to do: our Harper Family Preamble and Family Meeting Design. Both were done around 1971 and are in Roxana's hand. When we discovered them, we'd been going through old photos in preparation for an upcoming event marking our 50th Wedding Anniversary. It struck us that the Preamble was what we'd choose to publicly reaffirm or recommit to at that event.
The Family Meeting Design, however, appears to have fallen by the wayside over the course of years.
We share both documents here in their original form.
